What's the difference between a syndrome, a disorder, and a disease?

Is OCD a Disease or a Disorder? And whats the difference?

  • Is a disorder like a disease? because i was wondering if OCD is a disease or a disorder, and whats the difference?

  • Answer:

They are both used interchangeably, but I think some people have different ideas. Some Examples: OCD = Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Heart Disease Here is a dictionary definition: Disease /disorder: top term heading for all specific disorders and diseases; a disease is a deviation from or interruption of the normal structure or function of any part, organ or system (or combination thereof) of the body that is manifested by a characteristic set of symptoms and signs; a disorder is a derangement or abnormality of function. Psychological disorders are known as "disorders" where it seems that other physical illnesses, such as heart disease, parkinson's disease, and diabetes are considered diseases rather than disorders. Not exactly sure why, there must be some medical or diagnostic reason. By the way, neither a disease or a disorder is contagious.
