How do I stop bleeding noses?

Is it normal for a 3 yr. old boy to have frequent bloody noses?

• My son gets frequent bloody noses, he gets them at least once a week. He usually gets them out of nowhere and occasionally he gets them from a SLIGHT bump of the nose. When he gets them he bleeds quite a bit and it usually lasts more than 15 minutes. Today, he got one that lasted for about 2 and a half hours. I brought him to my local dr, after bleeding for an hour and a half, my local dr is a quack, though. He really didn't examine him he just tried a few different ways to stop the bleeding and told me it could be several different things. It could have been from hitting it, picking his nose, the dry air, or an iron deficiency. All those didn't fit and I said that to him, but he ignored my input. I am really worried for my son. I NEED to know what the possibilities could be. I live an hour and a half away from the nearest specialist and don't accept patients without a referral and my dr won't refer him. So I am trying to do my own research that I can bring to my dr that will help make him refer me to a specialist. Also, he can feel them coming on, he gets headaches, and they make him irritable and tired. Another side note that may be helpful is that his father and myself have NEVER had a bloody nose in our lives. Please someone HELP me!

  Perhaps it would be good to directly bring him to the hospital to check. Bloody nose can be serious.. but sometimes it can be just that, your son is too heaty... perhaps you can let him drink more water, or even had some barley water, watermelon which is cooling in nature.
