Exactly how rare is central heterochromia?

Do I have Central Heterochromia?

  • Since i was a kid my eyes would seem to change color from day to day. One day Green, then Blue, then brown. It seemed to relate to the shirt i was wearing. Now as i have gotten a little older, it is a greenish grey on the perimeter, then it is a brownish color on the inside. I have been looking around and i have seen some sites showing Central Heterochromia. It looks like some pictures i have found but i dont know for sure. Is there any way to know if I do have Central Heterochromia with out going to an eye doctor per say?

  • Answer:

I knew I had it when I saw the pictures. I stumbled on them by accident whilst I was doing some research. It's easiest to see if you have grey or blue eyes with a very dark colour around the pupil. My right eye is green-grey (but can look deep blue) and has copper-brown around the pupil. My left is light blue (or blue-grey) and has yellow-orange around the pupil. My mum also has the pattern I have in my left eye, in both of her eyes. Mine also look grey/blue/green on different days or in different light. They say the best conditions to see your real colour are in natural sunlight or outside in the daylight. Of course, hazel eyes include brown in the centre and green on the outside (deep green). I'm not sure if hazel eyes are classed to have central heterochromia.
