What is glaucoma?

What is the relationship between glaucoma and diabetes?

  • Is glaucoma signs of being diabetic?

  • Answer:

No. I am not an expert - but the last time I was at the eye Dr. and was bored, I read all the pamphlets they had about various eye diseases. From what I remember, the vision problem that diabetics get is called diabetic retinopathy, and it is different from glaucoma. But both can permanently damage the eye and cause vision problems or ultimately blindness if not treated.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes: 3 words - Polyphagia, polydipsia, and polyuria. They mean to eat a lot, drink a lot, and pee a lot. Those are questions we are taught to ask patients to screen for diabetes. Other things DM II can do is cause nerve damage, kidney damage, and eye damage. It raises blood pressure and can increase your risk of heart attacks. Bad thing all around. To diagnose it see your doctor and get a fasting blood glucose level.
