How to clear blocked ears from flying?

When will my blocked ears clear?

• A little while ago i came down with throat pains, a cold, headache, blocked/runny nose and a blocked ear (Ear drops wouldn't work, i gently put an earbud in and found no wax), i went to the doctor and he prescribed me some amoxillin, he was a foreign doctor, and with a blocked ear i found it hard to understand his accent so i didn't get everything that he said whilst examining me. What i did get, was that he said my sinuses were blocked, he couldn't give me decongestants because i was taking paracetamol for my headache, so he prescribed me those anti-biotics (amoxillin) and said it would take between 5-7 days to clear. I'm just finished the final pill of my 7 day course of anti-biotics and although my headache, throat and nose trouble has gone, both my ears are still blocked. I've been told by friends to give it time to sort itself out, but I have gigs I'm playing at to attend in about a weeks time, as well as assessed presentations to give at college (For A-Level courses), and with two blocked ears, i can not judge the volume of my own voice (Apparently i was shouting my head off in the middle of town when i thought i was just using my normal voice) or hear properly, pardon my French, but severely ballsing up all those events. Can anyone tell me when my ears should clear, or at least give me more information about what's actually going on inside them as i was sitting at the doctors like a complete vegetable when he was explaining it. • Answer:

  Stop taking the paracetamol and go get yourself an over the counter decongestant which should take care of the problem. This is common following a cold/sinus infection, etc. and can take a while to resolve. You can help it resolve faster with a decongestant.
