Is it normal to have a deformed and rather odd feeling tonsil?

Advice / second opinion? Swollen tonsil long time?

  • So I have had one swollen tonsil for about 3 months now, since June. I had tonsillitis twice between Jan 1 and the beginning of June as well as an illness that much resembled the flu w/o vomiting. Shortly after my last illness in the batch of illnesse i was having, I noticed that I was having night sweats that would drench the sheets. My butt area would be soaking wet and my back. It lasted for about a week. One day shortly after I was brushing my teeth and felt something funny on my tongue. When I looked in I noticed I still had a swollen tonsil that hadn't gone down on my left size. Not too big but defiantly swollen noticeable. I also have swollen lymph nodes along my neck on the left side as well and a couple on the right but only 1 is in same regions on right side, the rest are all on the left. Since then I have been tested for mono which was negative and I had a blood count that came back normal. I saw an ENT last week that said a lot of really big words I didn't understand but what I got out of it was non threatning, also something about cryptic tonsils and that I wiil need them taken out. Also if i get sick before my surgery sept 14 too take antibiotics. Latley they have been feeling soar when I lay a certain way on my floor playing video games. He said it was nothing but I'm paranoid as hell it really is something a lot worse than reoccurent tonsillitis or w/e he said. Has anyone ever heard of this before or have any ideas?

  • Answer:

It could be strep positive, scar tissue from previous tonsilitis attacks, on sight of gingevitus which breeds bacteria in the mouth and gums inflamming the tonsil, smoking, cystic scar tissue, or throat cancer. There are to many types of illnesses that can appear in the tonsil and neck lympnodes to make just a wild guess, but if you do suffer from constant tonsil inflamation then removing them will help to some degree.

Sounds like you need a tonsillectomy if it's been swollen that long.
