What is a cure for cold sores?

Anyone know a good cure for cold sores that they have tried and works ?

  • i have 2 cold sores, one either side of my mouth and they have been there for a couple of weeks now and they are seriously doing my head in! , i went to the local chemist and cold sore cream it was £6.50 and that's seriously too much for me to pay, so i was wondering if anyone has any home cures/remades or a cheaper cold sore cream that actually works and they've tested ... Many Thanks =) x

    The only thing that has ever helped me (and it only helps in the first few hours, when there is tingling and the slightest swelling) is prescription acyclovir. However, having had them for a couple of weeks, all that you can do now is wait for them to finish healing. If you are under stress, that prolongs the span of the cold sores sometimes, so try not to stress. (Is there a more ridiculous expression in the english language than 'try not to stress' ? LOL)

my pharmecist recommended lycene years ago. that is what i have used. if you keep it on them they will go away. you can get it in a jar by itself. it looks like vasoline, but has a nice smell and it does help faster than anything short of the expensive stuff.
