What Is Turner Syndrome?

What exactly is Turner's Syndrome?

  • What are the complications that the child will have to live with?

  • Answer:

Turner Syndrome is a chromosomal condition. Where a "normal" human female has 46 chromosomes in every cell, the last pair being two X chromosomes, in a female with TS one of those X chromosomes is partially or completely missing or damaged in some or all of her cells. The most universal symptoms are that she will be short and her ovaries will not function, so she will be infertile and will require hormone replacement therapy. Cardiac issues are also common. A good source of information is the website of the TS Society of the US, www.turnersyndrome.org.
