  • am i lactose intolerant? it all started about a year ago when i started drinking more milk than i already do. im a teen by the way, in case if that's relevant, but lately ive been having problems, like diarrhea, stomach pains, and bloatin sometimes... although these symptons do not happen each time, like i can drink milk or eat cheese one day and im totally fine, but a few days later i eat cheese and milk and then i have stomach pains, diarrhea, and bloatin. i don't know if i am lactose intolerant, or if it may just be coincidence or something, but the amount of times i have been sick have been versely proportionate to the amount of milk i have been drinking, which is alot recently. am i lactose intolerant? oh, and my biological father is lactose intolerant, so maybe it's in my genes, if that helps...

    Sounds like it... especially the bloating part... my dad and my friend are lactose intolerant. They both say that's the biggest symptom... although my friend does eat a lot of cheese and ice-cream with no effect... I guess it depends on the day. (If you didn't drink milk for a time, even a short one, in your life then you can become intolerant... I've drank milk consistently so I didn't become intolerant like my dad.)

I started out that way. First, it was sporatically I would get sick after drinking milk. However, over the course of about a year I developed a strong allergy to anything dairy. Cheeses, milk, and dressing (like ranch) especially make me sick. You might need to go to the doctor and see if you really are allergic or if it's something else. Bear in mind that you can develop an allergy anytime in your life to anything. Should you want to continue to drink milk/eat dairy there are dietary pills you can take before consumption. Hope this helps. Believe me, once you get used to it it will get easier to control and deal with.
