How often is it safe to have a CT scan for kidney stones?

This is my second question about enlarged kidney and kidney stones?

• Last time I had a stone moving was in Oct '08 and they did a CT Scan, showed that my left kidney was enlarged and there was a good sized stone there. Both my kidneys are full of stones and I know the dos and don'ts of stones and all the info. My concern is this... It is now beginning of March and I have yet to hear from the doctor that I was referred to. That stone has not moved because I know when they are moving. How is my kidney now...if it was so enlarged then...would it be even more so now? I have a burning sensation in my lower back (kidney region) more so on left but now on right as well. If I was to put any pressure on my left it hurts. Is this something I should go to the hospital for? It is nothing like I had before with the moving of kidney stones. I am concerned with what is happening with my kidney or kidneys and if something should be done rather than waiting for the doctor to contact me.

  You need to contact your MD re the burning pain in the kidney region. you need to discuss options for kidney preservation or loss or dialysis. There are options for treatment, laser lithotripsy, transplant. You need to find out how much kidney function you have now and how much you will have after any procedure. You need to avert and infection which will compromise your life or surgery/kidney function/failure. Make an appt with doc asap. if sx worse, go to emergency room, but, I don't think you need to be there unless you can't pee at all, or if you have a fever 100 or above, vomiting, severe pain/blood/fatigue, not voiding/(pee) in 12-24hrs or decrease urine volume.
