Can you get HIV from having protected sex?

How long should I get tested for HIV? I had protected sex last night but am still scared?

• I inspected the condom afterwerds but am still really scared I think he may be HIV+ i made sure I saw the sperm in the condom afterwerds but thier was spit going on and I think some may have gottan in my eye, how long should I wait to get tested?

  Thinking and knowing are two different things. In a way, you're quite lucky that you started to consider testing early. HIV testing is all about TIMING. Take the right tests at the right time and you can be sure of the results. Many will say go test at 4 weeks. I think this is rubbish, what you need to do is test at 6 weeks using a 4th generation HIV lab test(NOT a rapid test as some might recommend). Find a doctor or lab that will specifically give you the Abbott Architect Combo Ag/Ab test and take it at 6 weeks. If that's negative, you're done. Take a rapid test at 3 months if you want to be 100% sure though. If you have cash to burn, you can take an RNA test at around 2-3 weeks, but this test will only give you a general idea of how things are going. If that's negative, then you're in good shape but you MUST take that test I recommended at 6 weeks. I was stupid and didn't read or learn anything about HIV and wound up taking loads of rapid tests and all the wrong tests all the way out to 6 months and wasted tons of money. Don't fall into the same crap situation as I did. If you think you had a risk, you're in the gold with what I wrote above. If you only have access to rapid tests and standard Elisa tests, you can take those at 6 weeks but you MUST test again at 3 months. Be safe.
