  • Answer:

When the HIV enters your body it takes about 4 to 6 months to release antibodies that would show up in blood tests. There is no such thing as the HIV virus to cause you symptoms of inflamed glands in a month, unless your immune system is absolutely down. Most likely you got some sort of influenza virus, BUT, BUT, BUT, that doesn't mean that I am telling you that you are going to be OK 6 months from now. I don't know, nobody can, time will tell. You need to go and have an HIV test now, just to make sure and repeat the test 5 months from now to double check. And next me, use a condom. You are young, you will have those sexual encounters again. Carry 2-3 condoms in your pocket at all times.

It is too soon for an accurate HIV diagnosis, herpes can have flu like symptoms. For peace of mind get a test after 3-6 months, HIV has good medications so now people with HIV are dying of normal things like cancer.

Get your ELISA test done, also see your doctor.Admiral V K Singh

I would advise you to wait 3 months before having a routine HIV test. Because of seroconversion, it generally takes 3 months before the test results would "show up" positive if you are indeed positive. In some rare instances it can take up to 6 months. Your cold like symptoms could very well be a coincidence. Nonetheless, because your encounter was risky, I would advise a test a 3 months for your peace of mind.
