How to get rid of rough dry patches on hands?

Yellow patches on hands and arms?

  • Hi, the other day I noticed while washing my hands that I had some yellow patches of skin on them (mainly on the sides/palms and it has spread onto my arm) - I'm not sure what they are or where they came from. My fingers and fingernails are a reasonable colour and my eyes and tongue are not yellow, so I don't think it is jaundice. I often feel quite tired and get pins and needles in my hands. I haven't come into contact with anything strange that would cause a reaction or stain my skin and I don't smoke/drink. I have a healthy diet but I don't eat too many carrots (I know an overdose od Vitamin A can cause this problem). So ruling out all of the causes I have heard of, has anyone got any other ideas as to why I have these yellow patches of skin on my hands and arms? Thanks!

  • Answer:

If there is no jaundice, or Vitamin A over dosage, the cause may be due to the skin. You should check with a skin specialist to find any skin problems. Another possible cause may be anemia if you feel tired easily, have pins and needles in your hands. You should also check with a blood specialist(hematologist).

Get a blood test, it's the only true way to know

Do you take vitamin tablets? As you said vitamin A can cause this. If it doesn't go away see your doctor.
