How do people get dry cracked heels, how do you prevent your heels from getting hard and cracked?

Socks and good shoes- I used to live in a hot country and moved to a cold country 6 years ago- my heels were cleaner and healed even if I did a lot of walking.

My heels were in terrible shape until I quit smoking. This may not be your case, but even so, file down the excess dry skin, buff your heels, coat your feet with Vaseline and wear white socks to bed. Repeat as often as necessary. Nothing has worked for me like Vaseline.

Usually, cracked skin on our heels and feet is caused by excessively dry skin. For many it's worse in the winter months or for those who live in dry climates. But going barefoot and wearing shoes with open backs can exaserbate the problem, meaning that even in the summer our feet are in rough shape. To help prevent cracked heals, you should moisturize your feet regularly with foot cream. If it does not improve you may be able to get a special cream from your local pharmacist.
