How do you get rid of bed bugs from clothing?

  • My brother has been on vacation in Chile and Argentina, and he is due to fly back in about 10 days. About 2 weeks ago he picked up bed bugs from a hostel. We don't know how to get rid of his bed bugs when he comes. We were thinking of setting up a quarantine station out in the backyard :P Please help!

    Buy him a set of new clothes,before you pick him up at airport to get in your car as for his suitcases also bring as many trash bags as needed to put, his stuff and suit cases in.Then go straight to the laundry mat and wash all his clothes,Heat kills bedbugs but it has to be 113 degrees or more to do so Don`t worry about what other people at airport may think you well never see them again,you need to protect your home ,as for your home protection,get bed covers for all mattresses target sells them for reasonable price,and as for your pet get a bottle of skin so soft from Avon its repels blood sucking insects,mosquitoes,fleas and bedbugs are the same blood suckers after my daughters experience of months trying to rid her home of them,heaters bed cover and tons of clothes washing is the only things that help (a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure)

Clothing won't be the problem but the suitcases might. Just throw the clothing straight away into the wash. Keep the clothes that aren't ready yet in a plastic bag until they are ready to be washed. The hard part will be the suitcases. Vacuum them out completely. You might even consider spraying them with a light coating of a pyrethrin based pesticide (such as pyrethrin dog flea spray)

Washing and drying them and placing them in containers should be enough to kill bed bugs. You could also freeze items to ensure any bed bugs are killed but your going to want to eliminate the bed bugs from your home not just your clothing.
