Horrible Sore Throat, Help?

Help and Advice Please, Sore Throat or something else?

  • Ok, I've had throat problems for about 3 weeks now. It started of 3 weeks ago with getting a sensation of something stuck in my throat, just below the adams apple. That lasted the best part of a week, then went away. Then the following week i got alot of burning sensation where the sensation of the something stuck was (just below adams apple). Then later in the week my throat became sore, and that lasted about 3 or 4 days. Now the sensation of something stuck in my throat has come back this week, and been on and off, not persistant. And my throat has felt a tad sore, but not much. At the moment it feels like warm in my throat, a bit like a burning sensation but not quite. I've also had the burning sensation in my ears, especialy when i wake up in the morning it effects the most. I also had a lot of Phlegm (flem) in my throat and had to constantly clear it. But thats pretty much cleared up now. I've also had body aches but i'm not sure this is connected. I have been to the doctors and he just said it's a viral thing, and that the sensation of something stuck in my throat was just my throat muscles tightening. But i'm not sure. I've had no nausea or sickness, no cough or major cold, just a bit of phlegm. I haven't coughed up blood or anything either. I'm planning on going back to the doctor soon I just wan't your opinion on it on what you think it might be. It's just this throat saga is really annoying me now and i've had enough.

Other answers

I can hear that you are worried and whilst you may be quite right to worry, I just wondered if you were a little bit stressed and over-reacting to your symptoms? I do it too, so I know! There is a bug currently sweeping the UK which gives throat symptoms, fever, headache, ringing in the ears a cough/chest infection. I've had this bug and certainly some of the early symptoms involved not being able to swallow properly and feeling like there was a lump in my throat. I've been very dehydrated and I think the sensation was about dry phlegm. Body aches could be flu too, might you have a mild attack? Take some vitamin C and relax. Hope you stay well.
