Is it normal to have fever after a cold?

Can a hay fever flair up turn into a cold?

  • The hay fever began with sneezing, itchy nose and throat, watery eyes and post nasal drip but no fever and no coughing. The usual over-the-counter remedies for hay fever (e.g. Benedryl) helped only a little but the congestion grew and descended from the sinuses into the throat and now upper chest. The patient is now coughing more than sneezing, exhibiing signs of a cold with minor aches, a minor sore throat from the post nasal drip, and slight hoarseness, but no real fever or chills. Hay fever is caused by allergens whereas a cold comes from a different virus. Can hay fever TURN INTO a cold due to increased succeptibility to nasal, throat and lung infection?

  • Answer:

Well, sure, given the right conditions. An already inflamed membrane and exposure to a virus. It's be little hard to imagine how a virus could get past a continuously draining nasal cavity but I suppose it could happen.
