  That is the question!! There is no clear cut answer sorry to say. It will depend on many, many factors. I suggest researching it on the web............allot, and talking with a pulmonary specialist. I was diagnosed with end stage in Dec 2008.....and was told my lungs would fail within two yrs max .and I'm still ticking. Or shall I say breathing. I have deteriorated a bit, but still have a wonderful , happy joy filled life. Never surrender. BTW......my secret, is surrender it all to God, and keep my body and my brain busy, especially when it feels like ya can't. There are charts that will divide the stages listed below on the web that combine lung function and other factors that will give estimates , but I have seen some folks I know personally go fast and others far past the same estimates. If the question was asked for yourself, and or someone you know, your time (once you prove to your self as I and many like me did........that question cannot be answered )will be better used .........learning how to live with it. From mild, moderate, severe, end stage.........could be 5 yrs, 10, yrs, 20yrs. , there is no expiration date.. One of my favorite sayings is " It ain't over till it's over". May sound silly but I kinda like silly......lol Daily care, maintenance, life style.........so many factors, love of life, good support system, following doctors orders, exercise.
