Is it possible to have grown a deviated septum over the years?

Deviated Septum? Septoplasty, Septorhinoplasty free on NHS?

  • About 3 years ago i got hit in the face with a basketball very hard, and i've only just realised that my nose is not symmetrical anymore. I use to have a perfect nose :-( . My nose also goes towards one side (the deviated side) and I also think i have a swollen turbinate in one nostril which may be causing my post nasal drip (i research alot, lol). So, I have an appointment with the ENT in a couple of weeks, but all I was originally going to see him for was a talk about my tonsils. But now that I've realised that I think I have a deviated septum I guess I'll mention that aswell. Do you think i'd be able to get a free septoplasty or septorhinoplasty on the NHS, the deviated is clearly visible and you can tell that my nose has had some trauma to it as one of my nostrils is enlarged on one side. And please don't just say 'oh you should just be happy with what you've got', because this is seriously making me feel down about myself. Thank you :-) xxx

  • Answer:

Your ENT surgeon should routinely check over your nose, throat and ears. If you have a fixable problem with your nose that is bothering you, I cannot see any reason at all why you would not be offered an operation on the NHS. My daughter had her DS fixed 30y after she walked into scaffolding!
