Chest, Rib Pain, & Breathing Problems?

  • First off, I've been to the doctors for my chest, my ribs, my shortness of breath, for everything. I've had scans, I've had xrays, I had ultrasounds, CT scans, all of it. They say I'm healthy, I'm fine and I'm normal. I've taken loads and loads of different kinds of medicines, none help. Before I start, I am almost certain I have IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) And I just got over Mono, last late October, after having it very bad for about 2 months. so about 5 months ago, I was "better" if you will. The rib pain was never until mono. And the breathing pain. The chest pain occured still every now and then. But a lot less often, and loss less intensifying. My problem is, almost everyday I get really bad rib pain, usually on both sides, not always. But usually. Somedays it's really bad. Somedays more mild. But it's almost always there. A lot of times it spreads up into my chest, and I get extremely bad chest pain. It feels like I'm about to have a heart attack. The pain in my ribs spreads to my back and kills and it feels as if they are broken. And my back very soar. My chest pain usually is right in the middle of my chest but sometimes over to the left and sometimes I get pain my down my left arm that really hurts. Sometimes I feel like I'm not getting enough air. I can take in huge breathes, so big my lungs filll full to burst. But it NEVER feels like enough air, then after my fingers and arms and face will start to go numb, and I'll feel extremely light headed, and tired. I don't know what is causing this chest/rib pain and they say that I am perfectly fine, but I just don't know. Does anybody know anything about this or experience anything at all like this?

  • Answer:

I assume you have had xrays of your lungs. You might also want to consider if you get tried and or out of breath easily, to request a spirometer test. That will determine you lung function and rule out, any respiratory disorders. I say this as I have copd, and was told for years all was good, then wham, in the hospital one day and out 3 days later with severe copd. We must be our own advocate. Best of luck
