What can cause daily nose bleeds?
-
Okay so my boyfriend is 19 and he's been getting frequent nosebleeds for a really long time of his life but recently they've been getting worse like he had one at 3 am the woke him up and then today at 2 and it was a lot of blood. I'm very scared for him and he doesn't have insurance so he won't go to the doctors:( does anyone know what might be the cause of this or how I could help him? Thanks in advance. Ps.... His nose is very sensitive and if I accidentally hit it or tap it a little hard it'll start gushing blood... Sometimes it'll just randomly start on its own too. The bleeding can last a minute to 15 mins and they range in severity

Answer:
It is not serious if it is just affecting his nose. However if his gums bleed as well, or he coughs up blood, or has red blood shot eyes then it could be a sign of something serious like leukaemia, however just nose bleeds by themselves will just be to do with his nose and they normally stop in time. If he feels tired all the time then this can be another symtom of leukaemia. Leukaemia is the only possible scarey cause. Its unlikely to be this, but if he has the other symtoms I mentioned as well, then he needs to see a doctor to be tested and checked out just in case. Otherwise nose bleeds are relatively common. Make sure he tilts his head forward when he has a bleed so it does not go down the back of his throat and make him choke, and tell him to lie on his side when in bed. Well if there is lots of blood loss then he might need some small operation on his nose and in which case should see a doctor. If its just a trickle of blood its not so worrying. Some people are prone to getting nose bleeds but it depends on how serious they are and if he has any other symptom.

can't guess at cause because it could range from no big deal to very serious-see a dr. Find an income based clinic-usually a university or county hospital will have one-In the meantime get his blood pressure checked. Walmart-Walgreens-etc do it for free
Some folks develop weakened blood vessels often because of a nutritional deficiency. Lack of Vitamin C could be a cause. Anyway.. with weakened blood vessels a higher blood pressure than normal could simply be causing those blood vessels in the nose to rupture. When my mother started with her nose bleeds it was discovered she had developed high blood pressure. I don't care whether it last two minutes or 15 minutes... your bf has weakened blood vessels for the blood pressure he is generating. Unless corrected he could be a candidate for a stroke. He needs to see a doctor. Suggest he join the army. They have great doctors and a great medical insurance program and will teach a skill.
