What are your opinions on the swine flu vaccine?

Child with Asthma? Not vaccinating against swine flu?

  • My 5 year old child becomes asthmatic during colds and illnesses. Otherwise, she does not have asthma symptoms. She's also on the autistic spectrum. I'm so conflicted about the swine flu vaccine. I am against it, but at the same time, I'm scared to death that she'll catch swine flu and not be able to fight it. Am I the only one with an asthmatic child considering not getting the swine flu vaccine? I'd love some opinions here...

  • Answer:

I am a college student now and i've had asthma very bad since childhood. Mine reacts with illnesses too and there is no way i would go without the shot. Before when i would get the flu it would cause all kinds of problems and i would have to go on steroids. I can remember being a little girl afraid to lay down to sleep because it was hard to breathe and i thought i wouldn't ever wake up. My mom chose to get me the shot and I have not been that sick in a long time and i hope i won't have to go through that again! So, in my opinion, its worth it. Hope this helps :)

Did you know that research shows it's not the vaccines that cause autism directly? It's actually due to having TOO MANY vaccines at once because the mitochondria become overwhelmed. Spacing vaccines apart should fix this problem, and that's what my doc is doing with my kiddos. You're right to worry with the asthma, though. My 6 year old has severe asthma, and I have the same worries. I think the thing we should be most concerned about are the vaccine side effects since it is new, not autism, etc. How does your daughter do when she gets a cold? If she does okay, chances are she'll be okay with the flu. If she struggles with asthma when she has a cold, get the vaccine! Better to be safe than sorry! Mine ended up in the hospital after a cold last year. I'm waiting to hear the research on the new vaccine (your pediatrician should get emails from children's hospitals testing the H1N1 vaccine specifically on children) then I'll decide. BUT, chances are, my little one will get it. I'm not taking any chances, especially with the asthma! Hope this helps! UPDATE SINCE ANSWERING: My child, who has asthma, has actually come down with the flu since I answered your Q. He just started having symptoms and will be getting worse for at least 2-4 more days. Already, he is on the verge of needing to go to the hospital. PLEASE get your child vaccinated. I wish the vaccine would have come out in time for me to get mine vaccinated. I hope he will be okay.
