Can methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus also called MRSA be spread through Blood or Blood Transfusions?

MRSA Can I get it From cleaning up someones blood who has it?

  • My Cleaning Lady was cleaning my home last Monday when she was dusting a Large Picture Frame on the wall on my stairs.Well it fell and there was glass everywhere so I came running and she was standing there crying with blood everywhere. So I ran to her and helped her to my kitchen and helped wash all the cuts with soap and water. Then I put some neosporin on all the cuts and put bandaids on them.I went and cleaned up all the glass and blood of the carpet and floor and the wall.I gave her and I a bottle of water and I sat down with her.I came back into the kitchen and she said she had forgotten which bottle was hers so she drank out of both which I said thats ok.Later that night when I called her I said I would like to take her to the er to get checked out because the cuts were so deep she told me she didn't want to go because she has MRSA ans they make a big deal out of it when she goes to the doctors.I was unaware that she had MRSA or I would have treated this with more care.I am scared now because I have a red rash on my face with fever, chills and joint pains.Am I over reacting to this or should I go to the doctor? I do already have very very low white blood cell count which my doc is watching?? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Seams like if she had MRSA in her blood stream she would be in the Hospital suffering with Septicemia. Probably she had a skin infection, that's what normally happens. Don't know what you should do about it, except wash everything with antiseptic and bath with Phisohex type wash, there is a non prescription wash at the pharmacy, ask the pharmacist about it.

It is estimated 12% of general public has MRSA without they themselves knowing it! Usually, MRSA can occur in any parts of the body. Those in the above 12% are usually skin or just from nasal swab, which is not very highly infectious. Only those MRSA sputum, respiratory system and blood are the dangerous ones. From professional point of view, I strongly encourage you to go to your doc esp your WBC is on the low side. If your cleaning lady has MRSA blood, depending on the countries legislation, she can be forced to stay in hospital until she is no longer infectious, before she can return to community. If you get what I'm hinting at!

Go and ask your doctor and if he thinks it is necessary he will send you for tests. I personally don't know the answer to your question but I do know that worrying about it without taking proper advice will make you very stressed and stress invites illness. Act quickly to safeguard your health!
