How long does an inner ear infection last?

How long does a ear infection last.?

  • My daughter is 2years old and she has had a ear infection for 2weeks now. She has been to the doctors and they give her ear drops the infection still hasn't gone it getting worse and now she has another infection in the other ear.

  • Answer:

Middle ear infections (otitis media) only get worse over time, and can cause permanent hearing loss if they progress to a condition known as "glue ear". Such infections are not helped by ear drops; they need a course of antibiotics. I think it would be prudent to see a pediatric ENT at this point. They know far more about ear infections than either a pediatrician or family practitioner.
