How accurate is a Mercury thermometer?

How long will i have to be exposed to mercury(such that from a broken thermometer) before it can affect me?

  • i broke a thermometer, i think 2 years ago..unfortunately, i was unware of its toxic effects.. I didn't dispose it properly, and just left the remains of it at home.. i read it evaporates in the air.. so, is it really dangerous to break it then be able to inhale it, even though it's amount is small? do i still breathe it everyday? it's been 1-2 years back. thank you for your answers!

  • Answer:

Hmm... most likely you won't get affected if the situation happened years ago. i know someone who as a kid, bit a thermometer containing mercury and as a result absorbed it. their solution was to vomit it out. however, in your case, i don't think you should be that worried as you didn't have physical contact with the mercury itself. But if you're seriously worried about your health, seek medical advice. :) hope youre ok though
