What are the chances that I contracted HIV?

What is my chances of having contracted HIV?

  • In June of 2010 a friend invited me to go with him and his friend( who is promiscuous and possibly could have HIV) to a movie. While at a QT his friend was punched in the face and ran to the bathroom getting his blood everywhere. I felt something under my contact and went into the bathroom and rubbed my eye directly, possibly getting his blood particles into my irritated eye. Two weeks later I got incredibly swollen lymph nodes, high fever and night sweats. I was tested one month post exposure, two months and again in October, all negative. So around 3.5-4.5 months and the results were negative. I put it behind me, but as of last week my groin nodes and a node behind my neck came up swollen without cause. I have had no fever, and my CBC came up completely normal. I am scared to death that I am one of the people that doesnt develop antibodies until 6 months and that I actually had HIV all along and am displaying lymphadenopathy! What do you guys think?? I'm scared to death!

  • Answer:

You need a viral load test, which will tell you if you have an HIV infection or not. It measures the virus, not your antibodies to it. Once that comes back negative, you need to talk to your doctor about treating your anxiety. Ask for a referral to a therapist.
