Is it normal to have fever after a cold?

3 year old, fever for 4-5 days?

  • My daughter started complaining of neck pain last Thursday. I checked her temp before giving her Tylenol for it and she had a fever of 101.4. Turns out the "neck" pain was her throat and she just didn't understand the difference. I took her to the pediatrician and she did a strep test that came out negative. Later that night her fever peaks at 103.5 and full cold symptoms have appeared. So we went through the weekend thinking the sickness was getting better, she now has a progressive cough which usually is her last symptom of a normal cold. She's still complaining of a sore throat after she coughs, and has a runny nose. The thing I'm most worried about is that she still has a fever. I just checked it before bed & she was running 101.5. I know that's not high but it's just the duration that worries me. I'm making an appointment tomorrow if she's still running a fever...I just wanted to know if anyone had this experience - is it normal for fever to last this long, or should I be worried about pnemonia??
