How effective is tea tree oil on?

Is Tea Tree Oil an Effective Way of Curing an Infected Piercing?

  • I recently got a nipple piercing - 4 weeks ago.. and I was using Salt water on it 2 times a day,and then just once... Its getting red and kinda sore and I went to the doctor and she prescribed me antibiotics. I dont want to take any more antibiotics unless I have to. I went to a health food store and the nutritionist girl there told me to put tea tree oil on it, like 6 times a day and it should get better. I should notice results in 24 hours. Is tea tree oil an effective way of ridding my body of infection? It seems to be working thus far but is it actually killing anything properly?

  • Answer:

Well, tea tree oil is a mild astringent... it should help a little. You can give it a shot but if you aren't seeing results quickly, I would HIGHLY recommend taking what the doctor gave you.

Other answers

You should listen to your doctor. If the infection remains only local tea tree oil will help. But if the infection has become spread to your system then maybe you should take the antibiotic. Do you have a fever? Other symptoms of infection like nausea and such? You are really the only one who knows how your health feels. You might want to continue to use both remedies. If the piercing jewelery is real gold, germs won't grow on it. If it is a cheaper metal, then you might continue to have this problem and it might be the cause.
