My throat is hurting me a lot?

A question about getting over strep throat?

  • Thursday morning (March 26th), I began to have extreme pain in my throat that had already been sore. Thursday morning and Friday morning I barely slept any due to the severe, pulsing pain. Friday morning I went to get tested, was found 'slightly' positive for strep throat. Though my pain was a 5 out of 5 and I had white spots all over the back of my throat and a huge white sore on one side that puffy red and very visible. That single sore has been responsible for causing most of the pain and the pain in my ear on the same side of the sore. I'm on 500mg of Penicillin VK, taken twice per day for 10 days. I started taking them Friday (27th) around 12pm. My pain is still severe, particularly at night when trying to sleep. It is still so bad that I couldn't sleep this morning, from that stupid one big white sore. All of the other parts of my throat where I had white spots seems to have healed. The sore is on the side of the throat muscle on the right side. It basically runs almost the length of the muscle (nearly half of an inch or so) and is long and skinny. It resembles a canker sore and hurts a tremendous amount. I've gotten them on my throat before, and I am very prone to canker sores - but never this big or this shape. And never on the muscle itself. The antibiotics don't seem to be working on the sore. I'm on my 5th day of antibiotics, and I feel somewhat better. But I'm frustrated with this severe pain from this sore. I have a typical canker sore on the inside of my bottom lip, and one on my upper gum. However...they are typical and round, like always. The sore on the back of my throat looks a lot more bright-whiteish than the canker sores with the white covering on them. It's also puffy and red along the sore on my throat. So I think this is part of the strep throat - that's when it came on there...and also what started my throat hurting to begin with.

  • Answer:

Never had this kind of condition but it sounds like you have two things going on. Continue to take the Anti biotic with plenty water. The water helps it get threw your system so you can feel the affects sooner. How long? don't know, depends on how your body works. However, do everything you can to help it. Drink the water.
