Do doctors blood test for HIV when a patient displays mono/flu like symptoms?
-
My boyfriend was diagnosed with mono at an emergency room about two months ago. He displayed typical mono symptoms that lasted about a month and a half. What are the odds of the hospital testing him for HIV?
-
Answer:
Zero. HIV testing is never done automatically with other testing. Legally, HIV testing requires the written consent of the person being tested. People who want to be tested need to request the test. If your boyfriend believes that he may have been exposed to HIV, he should be tested.

No medical proffesional can test you for HIV without your consent. But he was experience mono like symptoms, they may have advised him to get a test, espeically if he seemed to be at risk in anyway.
