What is yeast?

What could be the cause of my yeast infections?

  • Okay so I'm going to make this as short as possible. I'm 19, female. Ive been with the same person for almost 2 years now ( monogamous relationship ) we are both std free- no cheating, etc. I've read a lot online that recurrent yeast infections only happen to people with diabetes or HIV? ive been tested for both (the diabetes runs in the family) and it came out negative. I havent told my doctor about the recurrent yeast yet i am next week but i just wanted to get some innsight has any of you ever experienced this?? my symptoms are: - chunky white thick discharge that never really comes out only when i "scoop" it out in the shower (sorry for details) - occasional itching, mostly i have this right before my period i get really irritated but i feel like i have a yeast infection 24/7 the reasons why I THINK i have them?: a long time ago like in the beginning of summer 2011 i got a uti and i took anti biotics and it gave me a really bad yeast infection, me and my boyfriend never use condoms (im on BC) and i think i might have given it to him, even though i was medicated for it, he never got treated, could he possibly be passing it back to me everytime we have sex ?? - I also heard that frequent exposure to sperm can make an imbalance in some females vagina and cause recurrent yeast, is this true? im very worried as to whats wrong with me, if anyone has been through anything similar or has words of advice please let me know, thank you ! God bless.

  • Answer:

Doesnt really sound like a yeast infection to me.. its normal before menstration for discharge to become thicker.. Clean yourself after sex and dont leave it in there overnight and you should be fine.. Eat more yogurt on a regular basis too and this will help.. especially if you have to take antibiotics again in future.. or they have over the counter probiotic pills that will do they same thing dont panic

Yogurt is a ancient remedy for yeast infections. Buy a organic varitey from a natural Foods store. It can be eaten byb the bowl full or 'applied' to the itchy area for relief /cure. Cherries or strawberries are good on top either way... ; )

If you douche, you are putting yourself at greater risk of developing yeast infections (as well as ectopic pregnancies). http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/azhealthtopics/a/vagdouching.htm
