What should you do if you have extreme arthritis in your hands?

Correlation between frequent staph infections and arthritis of my hands and feet?

  • PART 1 :ok so about three years and i started having burning and tingly sensations in my hands and feet. now the pain has gotten worse and is all the time. arthritis is an autoimmune disease. im puzzled cuz im only 21. PART 2: about a couple months after i started having arthritis pains, i started having staph infections. since then i have had 10 total staph infections one of my legs. than i noticed i had a staph on my other leg. i know it cant be my razor, because i also shave my arm pits and vaginal area. ( if the staph was transmitted thru my razor, i would have gotten it on the other areas i shave.) so could i have an immune disorder or disease?

  • Answer:

You have Juvenile idiopathic/rheumatoid arthritis ? Are you taking methotrexate or steroids ? Staphylococcus aureus and Staph epidermidis are everywhere, with the latter being very common on skin. It could be that by lowering your immune system (to fight autoimmune reactions) you're just more prone to attack by Staph thats always there. I would take great pains not to cut or scrape yourself, and purchase some Hibiclens to wash with, particularly the hands. Septic arthritis is rather unlikely. A sample of your synovial fluid from the joints would need to be taken, but at that point you'd probably be deathly ill.

There are a couple of possible connections. Burning and tingling sensations are neurological symptoms that could be caused by rheumatoid arthritis or a variety of other causes, including staph. Staph bacteria create a neurotoxin that causes severe nerve inflammation. There is also a type of arthritis that is caused by infection, although this is a very rare type of arthritis. So adding this all together, its very possible that you have septic arthritis caused by staph bacteria. That would explain the recurrent staph infections and arthritis.
