What's wrong if I feel weak every time after I finish eating?

I feel miserable. Can you help me figure out whats wrong?

  • I've got a few questions to ask here, so please bear with me. For the past year and a half I've been getting frequent sinus infections. My doctors diagnosed me with chronic sinusitis, and occasionally pump me full of antibiotics, but it never really seems to do anything. I just keep getting sick over and over. First of all, how many courses of antibiotics in a year is too many? I've been given probably over 10, at least over 8. That seems like a lot. Also, is there just no way to stop chronic sinusitis? Should I just accept that I'm going to feel like garbage 75% of the time? Normally my symptoms for this are heavy fatigue, difficult to focus or concentrate, stuffy nose, loss of breath, feel like I'm going to faint when I get up too quickly or try to do anything physical, and I'm super hungry all the time. I eat a healthy diet, and I exercise a lot when I am healthy enough to. Also, asthma and diabetes have been ruled out by tests. Lately though I've been having some more weird symptoms on top of the regular ones. Mostly, I've been urinating a lot, even when I dont drink much water, I feel thirsty even when I have had a lot of water, and I've lost like 10 pounds in a few weeks, and havent really put any of that back on, despite eating a lot and not exercising as much as normal (do to feeling so exhausted, and fainting and everything). I had some blood tests done, and my hemoglobin and hematocrit levels came back as too low. My absolute neutrophils level also came back as too low. My lymphocyte level on the other hand came back too high. I'm just wondering what possibly might be wrong with me. My doctors can't see me for a while, and I feel miserable, and would like to at least feel decent so I can get through class and work and all my other responsabilities, until I get to see the doctor. Also, I'm getting a bit freaked out because I'm constantly hungry, so I'm eating quite a bit, but not putting on any weight, and I feel faint a lot more than usual. Any thoughts on what this might be, or what I can do to feel better? Thanks in advance for your help. I appreciate you taking your time to answer my questions.

  • Answer:

The symptoms you describe are all symptoms of low red blood counts, such as are found in anemia. Even the sinus problems are part of this. It could very well be that your doctor has been treating you for infections you don't have, you've developed anemia and you're probably resistant to antibiotics. I would consider getting a second opinion right away.

I saw your post and it reminded me of similar symptoms my son had. He 18 years old. He was tired, always thirsty, but drank water constantly, would feel lightheaded and black out when getting up from a sitting position too quickly and the slightest cold would exaggerate symptoms tenfold. He would urinate frequently and had lost ten pounds in exactly two weeks, but ate alot. We took him to numerous doctors who couldn't find anything wrong with him. Finally, after several months, a specialist diagnosed him with dysautonomia. It is a condition in which one's nervous system has a "glitch" in its functioning. The nervous system doesn't regulate heart rate and blood pressure properly. He had to monitor his salt and fluid intake and eventually was put on medication called Floricef. It is worth checking out. Hope this helps a bit.
