What causes food poisoning?

• I work with a boy and girl that both missed work on Friday. They ate at some restaurant and said they missed work due to food poisoning. If I get sick after I eat is that food poisoning? Is this poisoning not the restaurants fault but in the food they serve? I am not sure I understand food poisoning. Has me and everybody else got it at one time or another? What can you tell me about food poisoning?

  Food poisoning comes from food that is contaminated by bacteria. As the bacteria grows in the food it produces toxins that are poisonous to humans. If we eat the contaminated food, our body reacts with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Some types of food poisoning pass after a couple of days and others are more persistent and need to be treated with antibiotics or other medication.
