Why do I have problems with breath when I lay down?

Why is my heart rate up high and I seem short of breath?

  • It's finals week at my college and last night I smoked a cigar to relax a little and drank a monster energy drink. I usually don't drink energy drinks but it's finals week and I need energy. I smoke a cigar on occasion, maybe once every couple of weeks. I haven't had much sleep in the past couple of days maybe 10 hours in the past 48 hours. When I tried to lay down to go to sleep I felt my heart beating very fast and I seemed short of breath. I have asthma and thought it might be my lungs acting up but it doesn't seem to be the case. I finally was able to fall asleep but I woke up to the same problems this morning. Could this be the smoking, energy drink, stress, and lack of sleep causing this or is it something I should be worried about?

  • Answer:

Its because of the energy drink. Energy drinks make your heart pump blood faster to keep you awake.
