On "bedrest" for high blood pressure. what can i do?
-
ive been on bedrest since i was about 26 weeks for high blood pressure. for about 4 weeks i strictly followed thebedrest but i dont have any help at home. so i at least get out once a day to go to get food, or go to a friends house (i lay down the whole time im there though) and today i went to register for my baby shower because i have absolutely NO help. my mom is always gone and my piece of **** babys father walked out on me so i have to get food for myself and clean and do all the stuff by myself.also, i get super depressed because im literally doing this by myself and when im at home in bed all i do is think about how stressful this is and the heartache of a break up. im really worried its affecting my baby. so my questions are 1. what is considered high blood pressure during pregnancy (my readings vary, the top number is always between 140-150 and the bottom number varys from mid 80's to 90's)2. will going out and getting stuff like at the store cut off oxygen to him. 3. and what are my restrictions on bedrest. i go to the doctor every week to check my pressure and to make sure my uterus is still growing, and he says its likely that its going to get worse later on (and no protein has showed up in my urine) and i go to a specialist once a week too to get biophysicals but so far everything is good. so can i continue what im doing or should i stick to the strict bedrest! help me i get so bored out of my mindd!

Answer:
First it does not matter if you are pregnant high BP is >120/80. No if the doctor tells you strict bed rest that is what it means. I worked in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) as an RN. I have taken care of babies at 26 weeks gestation. I beg you to slow down. You are putting the baby at risk for early delivery and possible complications from being delivered early. Not to say you are putting your self at risk for stoke. I understand you are stresses which is also not good for the baby. If you don't do what the doctor recommends he will be forced to admit you to the hospital for the duration of your pregnancy, and talk about being board. I am not sure how old you are, but you do sound young. If you are having problems talk to the doctor they are there to help you both physically and mentally. You should ask to speak to a social worker at your next visit. They can help you to locate help in your local community. Good luck to you and the baby, remember it's all about him/her now.
