Hypochondria or Heart Problem?

  • I am 5'3 & 200 lbs- so I am overweight for my size. Well, I've been to the ER almost 10 times now- or been in the ambulance- in the past 4 weeks. My heart rate has never left the 100's but I've had a Cardiac CT, numerous EKGs & numerous heart enzyme tests as well as other heart tests- all have been normal. Doctor last night said I've even been tested for Myocardisis- where your heart just stops. I have no blockages, no clots, no calcium build up or fluid around my heart or lungs. But, I keep feeling like my heart is just going to stop. So much so, that I now have a red mark from rubbing on my chest so much. Is it just my overweightness that is making me have a high heart rate? The doctor said usually myocardisis is associated with pain, as well as a racing heart. Isn't my high heart rate a racing heart?? But he's not concerned.

IOverall, you could probably have hypochondria. I know someone who has this, They are constantly checking their heart rate to see if it is coming down and say things like my heart is coming out of my chest, i can't concentrate because my heart rate is through the roof. Irrational things... My heart comes down fast after I run consecutively for a few days. I don't actually care if its high. I know I can get it down through cardio exercise. Be aware that your thoughts could be irrational and created by your own fears probably of dying. I don't think there is such thing as not fearing death. On some level we have a fear of it no matter how slight. I don't think I fear it but then again I know probably deep within I could. It becomes irrational when you are constantly feeling there is something wrong with you when you are fine. You should trust the doctors, you are fine, high heart rate could be stress related, diet related and lack of exercise. Stop rubbing your chest or any habits to do with analysing the heart like testing or trying to listen to the heart rate. It will come down, if you take the measures to bring it down, but do not think your heart rate is abnormal, this would put your life on hold and your habits of analysing could really put your life on hold. best of luck!!
