Could i have a heart problem..?
-
Ok so on Sunday this week (so two days ago) i went to work at my local stables as i do every weekend. I went to work fine, apart from having to carry buckets of water that we don't usually have to do it was a normal day. After work i decided to ride my horse, i started walking around on her and i was fine. I started trotting around as i normally would when my chest felt funny and my heart started beating so fast that it felt like my chest was vibrating. I've had this before like randomly when i'm riding but it's never lasted more than 2 or 3 seconds so i thought nothing of it. I expected it to go away but it carried on and i felt a little floaty but apart from that i felt absolutely fine but i was pretty worried that i was going to black out or something so i made my horse walk to see if it would stop but it carried on. After about 5 minutes it was still vibrating my chest but apart from that nothing else was happening so i just carried on riding as normal!! Stupid maybe but after i steadied my breathing and just let it carry on my heart did settle but it went on for like 5 or 10 minutes. I told my mum about it when she picked my up and she first suggested that maybe because i was wearing a back protector it might have put pressure on my chest and just made me feel it more but i'm absolutely sure this isn't the case because i never ride without the back protector and also it wasn't a harder beating of my heart it was faster and strange. She then suggested that maybe it was a panic attack. I'm pretty sure it wasn't because apparently they're really bad but i'm thinking it may have been a mild panic attack because although i am certainly not afraid of riding, before i rode i was thinking about how two sundays ago there were people shooting birds in the field next to the yard and when they let off the shots i nearly fell off because my horse bolted crazily everytime the shots went off. And although i wasn't thinking about this when i rode it may have been in my subconscious! The other option is a heart problem... Now i thought this was very unlikely because i'm only 17 years old!! I also think that would be extremely bad luck if i had a heart condition because i already have spent years of my life suffering Kidney Failure and various other things. However my mum suggested that if my heart was slightly enlarged it could be putting pressure on my kidneys causing them not to work. Is this at all plausible?? I was going to get my heart checked out because my mum said it's a pretty basic procedure but i've just read someone's experience of a slightly similar problem and they took a blood sample from her and as life threatening as a heart condition might be there is no way on earth i would voluntarily have blood taken because i have a horrific needle phobia and would rather wait and see if this becomes regular before i have any needles anywhere near me!! Stupid and immature maybe but that's just me!! But i really need some assurance or an idea of what this could be because i keep thinking i'm having chest pain when i'm probably not because i'm thinking so much about this and also i keep panicking when i think about it and got about 1 hours sleep last night worrying about it... Ridiculous, i know, but i'm guessing a heart attack would be terrifying and i don't want to be taken unawares!! Please answer even though i sound absolutely stupid! xx

Answer:
A heart problem is not diagnosed with a blood test. It is determined by an EKG. I had one.

First of all you are not being stupid. What you had could be as simple gas or as serious as a sign of an impending heart problem. An irregular rhythm such as what you felt should be checked out by a cardiologist. This does not necessarily mean blood tests. An ECG will tell a lot, particularly in heart rhythm conditions. Don't misunderstand, it is up to the doctor to diagnose and recommend further tests if needed. Even if you are not experiencing any symptoms at the time the ECG is taken, it may still offer some very useful information. I recommend you see a doctor and have it checked out. If nothing is found it may put your mind at ease. Good luck.
