Is my heart beat normal?

Fast heart beat? Normal, or not?

  • Today, in the afterrnoon I was at school. (I'm 13 and I have an anxiety disorder) We had an assembly, and then my heart started to beat weird, and fast. I got scared and I told the teacher and he told me to sit down and breathe. I did what the told me, but it didn't work. I went to drink water and it didn't work. I felt like fainting. It lasted for like 15 minutes or so. I wasn't worrying or scared when my heart started to beat fast and weird. Is it because I slept about 7 hours or something? One of my classmates had her heart beating really fast and she almost fainted, and she came to school the next day wearing a heart monitor thing. So, what should I do?

  • Answer:

It's most likely to be anxiety, ask a parent to take you to the doctors to be sure. For now I suggest you time your heart beat when resting it should be under 80 beats per minute (bpm). Next time it races time it again and see the difference, sometimes it's not beating as hard as you think.

sounds to me like you had a panic attack, talk to your doctors about it.

Stress can cause your heart to race. It may have been because you were in a large group of people. I am sure you are ok but tell your parents and maybe you should get checked out by a doctor. :)

THE ABOVE PEOPLE ARE WRONGG! THEY ARE NOT DOCTORS, A HEART BEAT OF 190 WOULD NEVER BE CAUSED BY STRESS OR AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE. PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM, THE ONLY POSSIBILITY OF HAVING A HEART BEAT THAT IS RAPID WITH THE CONDITIONS THEY STATED ABOVE ARE SINUS TACHYCARDIA WHICH DOES NOT GO OVER 120 BPM. Supraventricular Tachycardia - Some people have episodes of SVT that includes extreme rapid heart beat, shortness of breath, palpatations, etc. Don't be afraid, there not very dangerous. Go see a doctor, he'll give you medication such as adenosine or dilitizem. This condition accounts for all your symptoms, if you were at the time, compeltely healthy with no sickness and you don't have panic disorder then this basically MUST be your diagnosis.

if you have strep throat you MUST take antibiotics. it could account for the episode of tachycardia (fast heartbeat). it could also be caused by thyroiditis, which will make yr throat sore as well - MUST see a doctor because if it starts up again, tachycardia can literally kill you. your tachycardia may be related to a panic attack, idiosyncracies of your growing body, low blood sugar triggering anxiety, overdoing physical exercise without warming up, etc. so you see, it can have numerous causes - get the throat checked, and mention the episode.
