How can I lower my heart rate?

How can i slow my heart down from medications that increase heart rate??

  • I take a medication that increases my heart rate. It's beating at 96 beats a minute right now (I'm a 32 year old male). I know this isn't overly fast - however, the heart is beating super strong. I can feel it my chest beating and I hate it. How can I slow it down or calm it down? I've tried the common stuff - sitting, relaxing, breathing, yadda, yadda. But I wonder if that stuff won't really help because of the medication. I would hate to take something else to slow it down, but I really hate the feeling of a racing and strong heart beat. I'm not stressed, anxious, or nervous. But the beating heart makes me feel all those things. Anything I can do?

  • Answer:

Is this the heart rate at rest? If it is then you need to contact your doctor. 96 is way too high for a calm resting rate you need to adjust your medication. Don't automatically assume your doctor knows what dosage is best. For heart medication it is best if you have a criteria for adjusting your dosage. Otherwise it could kill you as your condition changes. I get to check my heart rate as one effect of my medication lowers my heart rate at rest. If my heart rate goes below 60, I decrease the medication, if my resting rate goes above 75, I increase my dose.
