Serious question about diabetes?

Diabetes question, need help?

  • I need help on this diabetes question and I can't find the answer anywhere. Can someone help explain to me how diabetes work in genes? And if diabetes is sex linked or autosomal. I am not asking what or how diabetes work. My question is what type of disorder is it (as in gene or chromosome mutation) and where the disorder occurs (sex-linked or autosomal).

  • Answer:

    not sex linked

I don't think they know for sure, and it depends on the type. One type is caused by bad habits, like eating bad foods... and another type could be dna related, but then it can also happen in kids who have no familial history of it.

All naturally occurring types of diabetes is genetic. For type 2's, you must have a genetic predisposition to the disease plus at least one other risk factor. However, you can acquire either form of diabetes thru injury, accident, surgery, other contributing disease like PCOS, many medications. gallstones (causing pancreatitis & possibly diabetes type 2), chemicals like alloxan that is used in flour (same stuff they give lab rats to give them diabetes), and other toxins like herbicides, pesticides, xenoestrogens, etc. This list is not all inclusive. So, no one can really answer your question but to say both reasons can cause the disease.

The latest studies seem to indicate a genetic link as well as a diet-related link that they do not yet know if it is gene-related. In other words, do you have to have the genetic precedents or can you create diabetes through bad eating habits.
