What is the best way to tell the person that you work for that you've found a new job and are putting in your 2 weeks notice? I've had a job for 3 and a half weeks. It's a part time job in a doctor's office. Before this, I did an internship as a medical biller. A week ago, I accidentally locked myself out a half an hour before I was supposed to leave and my dad had to come give me my car keys. All of the lights were on inside and my purse and phone and basically everything I needed. I called the doctor to tell him. A few days ago I had a migraine headache and was kind of slow that day. The office manager to the doctor that and at the end of the day he asked me about it and I told him "Probably about twice a month I get a migraine headache and nausea." He told me "Go to the doctor and get a prescription or you will be fired." I've made a few other small mistakes at work and he is always very mad when he sees me make one. The day after he told me to go see my doctor (and I did go and got a prescription), a medical billing company called me to tell me that I got the job I had applied for and went on an interview there for in July. It's a full time job. I told them that I wanted the job. So I have to leave the job I have now. I'm going to tell the doctor on Monday. I'm extremely scared. My boyfriend told me to write him a letter and hand it to him on Monday. What do you think I should say in it?

Answer:
Do not write him a letter. That is not at all professional. He isn't your mother so you have to do this in a professional manor. Even if he does fire you, you still have another job waiting. It's not that bad. Just walk up to him and say that you are putting your 2 weeks notice in for personal reasons. If he asks say it's personal and you would rather not talk about it. He is suppose to accept your 2 weeks notice without any explanation at all. If he yells then just take it and continue on with your day.

Write the letter to the doctor and phrase: While I have enjoyed working here, I regretfully give my 2 weeks notice. My last day of work here will be........ Also put in there that it has been a pleasure to work for him and you learned alot from being there. Keep it short and sweet. If he asks why you are leaving, say it is to better myskills, and leave it at that. You do not have to tell him where you are going, just that you're going.
Go to the Office Manager and let them know you are giving your 2 weeks notice. Then follow thru and be finished in two weeks. The Manager will tell the doctor and if they choose not to keep you two weeks, they will cut you a check and hand you your hat goodbye.
You speak to the office manager. You do NOT hand a note to anyone. That's not how it is done. Sounds like they'll be happy to have you go since you messed up so much in such a short time. When you are the new person at a job, you suffer through the headache and don't let anyone know you are suffering. You are supposed to do the absolute best that you can and not draw attention to yourself.
