Best carbs for hypoglycemia?

Can a child have reactive and fasting hypoglycemia at the same time?

  • My 5 year old daughter has ketotic hypoglycemia. She starts getting sick, thirsty, shaky and weak and begins spilling ketones as soon as her sugar drops below 80. This only occurs after an overnight fast. I give her high protein high carb meals, but sometimes she will get sick anyway. Frequently during the day, I have noticed her getting irritable, weak and hungry shortly after a meal. For example, last week she ate a chicken salad sandwich and a small handful of sunchips for lunch. One hour later, she was complaining she was hungry again. I checked her sugar and she was 74. I fed her again, and she made it until supper. I feel like I am always trying to give her high quality protein and carbs, but am still struggling to keep her from getting low. Is it possible that she could she have both fasting ketotic hypoglycemia and reactive hypoglycemia at the same time?

  • Answer:

Reactive Hypoglycemia and Ketotic Hyplogycemia are both conditions. Some defects of metabolism cause both Reactive Hypoglycemia and ketotic hypoglycemia. You will find there is not much information on Reactive Hypoglycemia .I have been looking for answers for over a year. The best information I have received has ben on Yahoo answers, from people who have the condition. Sorry I can't rember their login . I owe them a big thank you.
