Baby and mosquito bites?

Mosquito bites and babies reactions?

  • Took baby to the doctor because he has (what I thought was) chicken pox or something. She said it was mosquito bites because the marks are on his legs. The marks are now around his diaper area on his tummy. Same kind of marks. She said that we were doing a good job at keeping the areas clean and well taken care of as well. The reason I asked her about them was because they got very red, then like, spread out in a big circle. No puss oozing, no swelling of the skin. Last night, the ones around his diaper area were apparently very itchy because he kept grabbing at that area. I have been applying the hydrocortizone cream she recommended but am worried because I can't seem to find the rogue mosquitoes. We put him to bed, with clothing on, yet if this IS mosquito's, it doesn't seem to be stopping them. Am bathing him in just regular dove soap, was told that is gentler on their bodies. Was told to not worry about it again unless the spots were crusty or oozing alot. Is it normal for babies to react strongly to mosquito bites and to be bitten like that?

  • Answer:

when one of my children was little they would react strongly to mosquito bites, just like what you are describing. We were able to find the mosquitos though. If the marks keep appearing in places that mosquitos don't access, I'd get a second opinion. Also, if you have pets, it could be flea bites. Kids are closer/on to the ground where they can be bitten even if there are only a few fleas.
