What's Iron Deficiency Anemia?

My grandmother has iron deficiency anemia and is allergic to iron, help?

  • My grandmother has iron deficiency anemia and is allergic to iron. She can't take any oral medicines without a reaction, sometimes severe. And the last time she went to take intravenous iron she had a reaction and they had to stop the therapy. She takes her intravenous iron with a steroid and allergy medicine, but it still hurt her. Is there anything else we can do? She's even slightly allergic to some iron-rich foods. When i say "allergic", i mean she has these symptoms: sharp pains all thru her body, starting in her chest, then her head, then down the base of her spine. =( Does anyone know of some help sites or specialists in this field?? Thank you!!

  • Answer:

since her doctor knows this, her doctor will advise her and can send her to a nutritionist. go to the next appointment with her so that you can understand her treatment.
