How would a gold and opal necklace have been crafted?

Weird reaction to a 15k gold necklace - has anyone heard of this or experienced it?

  • I have a gold necklace given to me by a family member which I unfortunately cannot wear. Since "real" gold is 10k and up, it is technically "real" gold. I can wear my cheap, fake gold earrings without a problem. But for some reason when I try to wear this necklace, it actually STICKS to my neck and starts to sting really really bad. And I either have to wait in agony for the stinging to stop (when it does the necklace unsticks) or "peel" it off of my neck which hurts even worse. I tried googling, but nothing came up. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

It is quite possible to be allergic to gold. I am. But my reaction is tiny little blisters that itch like crazy. Don't wear this necklace anymore. ETA- You can usually wear other metals, just not gold. Platinum is beautiful, and that's what I got my wedding set in. You can probably also wear silver. But, yeah, unless you get very low grade gold, you probably can't wear "real" gold.
