Are eyes permanently red?

Why Just The Red Eyes!?

  • Since 8th grade (going into 10th), I've had red eyes. Every day of every week, whether its moderately pink or all around red, my eyes are red. NO ITCHING, STINGING, OR HURTING, THEY'RE JUST RED. I'm sick of it because one, red eyes are ugly. Two, people assume your a pothead, crackhead, whatever you call it, when you have both red eyes and sever acne (acne is now gone). I wear soft lens contacts (acuvue oasys for astigmatism) and have been for quite a while (changing brands here and there, but right now acuvue seems like the best fit). Anyways, I have tried visine, opcon A, clear eyes, you name it. Every now and then they make my eyes the normal all around white they should be, but within minutes its back to the red. My doctor gave me Patanol eye drops, and after that failed, she gave me Ketotifen Fumerate Ophthalmic Solution (eye drops) which failed as well, so she referred me to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor). At the ophthalmologist appt., he flipped over my eyelid and told me that my red eyes were due to dryness, allergies, and oils getting into the eye. He said that the oil glands on my eye lids would over produce oil and irritate my eye. He ended up giving me these eyelid cleansing wipes and lubricating eye drops. In specific, OcuSoft Cleansing Wipes and Systane contacts soothing drops. I've been washing my eye lids and using the eye drops but STILL NO IMPROVEMENT HAS BEEN SEEN. Any help please!? I start Highschool in two days... And would love to NOT look like a druggy when I walk into class. Should I moisturize my eyelids? (I used to get acne because I would overwash my face, thus drying out my pores causing them to over produce oil). Should I use those night contacts so I don't have to wear contacts in the day? Any suggestions would help.

  • Answer:

Try going without the contacts for a few weeks - my guess is that THAT is what the problem is. There are people who simply can't wear them without eye irritation. Try boosting your vitamin C. This might sound simple, but vitamin C is an immune booster, and helps with allergic reactions. You can't overdose on it, even if you ate the entire bottle, because it is impossible for the body to store vitamin C. Try taking 1- 2 grams, 3 times a day - spaced out throughout the day.. (but my guess is still that it is the contacts!)
