I Keep Having Nose Bleeds Constantly! Help?
-
Okay, So right now, where I live, the weather has been on & off. But this week, I guess the weather decided to be extremely HOT & DRY. Unfortunately, I keep having non- stop nose bleeds. It started on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010, in the morning before I was going to school. I was washing my face & stuff, and every time I'm done, I blow my nose, but this time it was a clot of blood. It lasted for about 10 minutes and it was holding me back from getting ready for school. That SAME night, I was in the shower, washing my face, and it started bleeding, so I had to get out the shower. This has been happening for 4 days now, and today it happened during my PE time and yesterday, it happened at school too and I went to the nurse and all she said was to pinch my nose with a tissue over it. But today, when I went to the nurse, there a much YOUNGER nurse who could take better care of me and give me tips, she told me to put Vaseline up my nostrils to keep them from getting dry from the dry weather. Anywho, what could be wrong? Should I do something? Btw, here's some things about my Health Issues; -I have Excercise-Induced Asthma (Please look it up for more information) -Nose bleeds are genetically inherited on my Mom side of the family -I have Sinuses & Allergies That's all I can think of that's serious with my Health. Thanks for taking the time to read to this point. (: -Byeeeeeee[=

Answer:
Dry air is indeed a big issue when it comes to nosebleeds. Once a tiny vessel ruptures it is difficult for it to heal completely before it is irritated and bleeds again. Saline spray and Vaseline are both good products to keep the nose from drying out too much. Avoid antihistamines as this will add to the dried out problem.

If it's a constant problem then you should see a doctor and possibly a nutritionist. My sister has nosebleeds constantly until she starting eating healthier and drank more water.
The younger nurse was correct - put a thin coating of petroleum jelly inside the nostril that keeps bleeding. I know it sounds kind of gross, but it works. The pinching the nose works to stop an active bleed, but the petroleum jelly is what will help with the dryness, which is what is likely causing the bleeds to happen every day. Also, running a humidifier or vaporizer in your bedroom at night can help. Use distilled water (you can get it at the grocery store) in the humidifier or vaporizer, not tap water, and change the water every night to keep it from growing anything that will aggravate your allergies. After a few days, the irritated blood vessel should heal enough to stop bleeding.
