My husband DQ from MEPS for halebit allergy?
-
My husband went to MEPS yesterday for the AF and at the very end they said he was DQ for his halebit allergy. They said that it would take only a couple of weeks to get a waiver for it then he could schedule the second MEPS. When my husband told his recruiter all he said was "oh well I guess the show stops here for you, unfortunately it didnt work out. If you want to still pursue it though you will have to wait a year and a half to go to MEPS again. Because you will be after everyone else that is waiting to go." it took my husband a year just to get this far...and he has been with this recruiter the whole time. So he left MEPS thinking there would only be a slight delay but was told different by his recruiter...does anyone know if there is any way to speed things up? Or what steps should be take at this point?

Answer:
After a DQ, you have several options. Your recruiter doesn't sound supportive. There are definitely waivers for this situation. You will need to talk to the recruiter again, tell your husband to say that he knows there are waivers for this type of situation. If he isn't willing to help, find another recruiter! There are always others that are willing to help. I have switched recruiters 3 different times to attain the position I want. The first two wouldn't work with me, the last one did. You'll learn in the military, you will be your own advocate! You can also switch branches. The Army isn't as strict in regulation as the Air Force. A situation like this should only take a few weeks at the most, nowhere near a year and a half! If this is what your husband really wants, then find solutions and keep pushing the recruiter to help! You can make it happen. Good Luck!
