How do you know if your house has mold in it?

Does anyone know about removing mold in a house while being allergic to it ?

  • I live on a military base and I am allergic to many molds. My house has visual mold and it has been so much drama and paperwork over this. After complaining for 6 months about a leak housing finally had someone come in and fix it but not before the mold is inside the wall.. I found it in the furnace closet also. I have to get 1 more paper filled out by my dr Friday and the government is going to do an air quality test. The maintence people just came by and said they are going to tear out a portion of the wall where the leak is and clean it with "mold killing stuff" and paint over stuff with anti microbial paint and where the furnace is they plan to take the furnace out and clean it and paint the inside closet walls with microbial paint. They are going to try and do this before the air quality test. I told them my drs note states if even visible mold is found i need to move. I expressed concerns about the mold even being cleaned and painted over with "special paint" and to let me tlk to my dr friday 1st. The guy want to spray some killer on it today but I don't know about the airbourne mold spore stuff about ANY of this stuff ! From them fixing the leak yesterday I have been sick all day so I just need to see about these things and how safe are they ans how effective are they? DoI need to be away a few hours or days or never return during and after all of this? Cutting, spraying on with killers, removing stuff and painting all this mold and mold covered stuff and making mold spores airbourne or multiply are things I want and need to find out by a medical professional and not maintence in my opinion ???

  • Answer:

I was hoping that a professional pest control person would respond. Is there a relative or friend that you can stay with while this goes on? A neighbor on the base? Just for your health? This procedure sounds right to remove mold, but I am not an expert. And while they are 'rooting' around, they should have plastic sheets and vacuums sucking the work and mold they are dislodging. Since this is a 'landlord' issue, they should pay for you to go to a motel till it is cleaned up. This is in civilian world. God know what they will do for you in the military. Have your doctor contact the command. Contact a lawyer that will take your case on contingency. So Sorry and Good Luck.
